Gianpaolo Corona, born in Transaqua (Tn) in 1973, begins climbing very young with his brother in the Dolomites. A lot of climbing, little talking!
He lived in Val d’Aosta for five years in which he became a Mountain Guide and fell in live with high altitude climbing.
Giampaolo is now part of the Gruppo Guide Alpine (Mountain Guides) Aquile of San Martino di Castrozza and Primiero, where is also works in the avalanche prevention and is amember of the mountain rescuers.
Since 2008 Giampaolo has worked also as a heli technician for the rescue services in Trento.
Corona is a video and photography enthusiast, and he uses them to collect his memories in order to share them later.

-BALTAR RANGE Pakistan. July 2007. Two first ascents in the range : “Maria Peak 5950m.” and “Wahine and Tan Peak “ 5900 m.
-MIYAR VALLEY India. August 2008. Two first ascents: “Cima Trento” 6046 m. 1200 m. TD+. “Cima Om Shanti” 5870 m. 800 m. TD. One new multi pitch way: “Ice on the rock” 1000 m. TD+.
-GASHERBRUM II (8013 m) Pakistan 2011. No oxygen aid.
-DHAULAGIRI (8167 m) Nepal 2012. No oxygen aid.
-TALUNG (7381 m) Nepal 2014. Attempted first ascent on the Nord spine with Mario Panzeri and Daniele Bernasconi.
In the spring 2015 Giampaolo wished ato pursue a new first ascent of the Kimshung (about 6800 m.) in Langtang.
But April the 25 th came and Nepal was devastated and shocked by the e arthquake.
Corona, with Francois Cazzanelli, decided to keep the mission on and to turn the mission into a rescue support operation, with the help of the heli pilot Piergiorgio Rosati who was in Nepal in those days.
The mission, sadly, was the recovery of the bodies of two Italian alpinists, and friends, Oskar Piazza and Gigliola, plus several other bodies from local inhabitants. .
Giampaolo is currently working with the Onlus “Oskar for Langtang”, founded by Oskar’s ifemate to help the Langtang Valley in Nepal.
