The Andraz Castle, or "L Ciastel" in Ladin, will be open to the public, at a special price, on Sunday 23rd June.
It is a fortress with an extraordinary structure built in the 11th century on a gigantic rocky spur that in the ice age detached from the Settsass Dolomites group ending down in the valley.
The Andraz Castle Museum, created to spread the knowledge of the manor house and the surrounding Dolomite area, illustrates and describes Andraz historical events and its transformations due to blazes and bombings occurred over time.
A section is entirely dedicated to Cardinal Nicolò Cusano, philosopher of the "convergence of the opposites", who lived there from 1454 to 1460.
Inside you can also find written and visual testimonies of the manufacture of iron extracted in the nearby Fursil mines and some archaeological finds discovered inside the fortress.
