On Saturday 22nd June the Fursil mines, located on Monte Pore in Colle Santa Lucia council, will be open to host guided tours.
From the Middle Ages to the half of the eighteenth century Colle Santa Lucia was an important center for ferrous material extraction, in particular an iron very resistant, rich in magnesite and precious for the production of swords famous all over Europe. For this reason the area was long disputed between the Bressanone Bishop and the closeby Serenissima Republic.
Much of the extracted mineral was processed along the Strada della Vena in the furnaces of Andraz and Piccolino for the markets of central Europe and in the furnaces of Cadore, Caprile and Pescul to be then transported to the area of ??Belluno and Santa Giustina for a final processing, heading finally to Venice.
The Fursil mines, besides being deeply connected to the Ladin-Tyrolean history, they also tell us about a magical, unknown, underground world, made of legends evoking witches, kings, queens, dwarves and priceless treasures kept in the darkest hidden rocks.
PRICES, INFO AND REGISTRATION
In case of bad weather the tour may be cancelled.
