ALL-INCLUSIVE OUTDOOR WEEKEND - AT THE FESTIVAL WITH TERRE IN CAMMINO

There was a time, not so long ago, when winters at Casetta Pulledrari, at 1250 metres above sea level in the heart of the Teso Forest, were animated by the metallic tinkling of the pulleys and the rhythmic sliding of skis on the snow.

In the 1960s, the enthusiasm for winter skiing had also reached the Pistoia Apennines. Thus, in 1967, in the clearing reached by climbing from Maresca, among beech, chestnut and fir trees, a small ski area was born, equipped with two ski lifts. It was a simple, familiar place, without frills, but capable of attracting dozens of local enthusiasts and families in search of snow and sun. The ski lifts climbed for about 450 meters along the slope, supported by pulleys and powered by an engine branded Seites di Milano, whose name, faded but still legible, survives on an abandoned sign in the vegetation. The skiers, many of them beginners, faced the hand-groomed slopes, between short but intense descents, slow ascents and winter chatter. The Casetta Pulledrari, then as now, offered refreshment and warmth, and soon became a point of reference for those who wanted to experience the mountains without going too far. The decline came slowly but inevitably, between seasons lacking in snow and the rise of the larger, more equipped ski resorts. At the end of the 1990s, the ski lifts were closed, and over time the forest began to reclaim the space.

We will climb those shady paths to see the rusty stations, the tow cables, wheels and ropes, tangible memories of a bygone era. No more screams of children or screeching of skis, but only the rustling of the trees and the singing of birds. The mountain has resumed its ancient rhythm, but the traces of man have remained engraved in the landscape: discreet, melancholic, yet alive. Witness to a time when even here, in the green heart of the Apennines, the thrill of snow was experienced.
